We recruiting for a ‘special’ Sock Designer.
This is a great opportunity to take the lead in designing for two owned brand ranges across multi-categories; from everyday functionality to lifestyle, to a distinctive new ‘preppy’ premium offering. You will know how to translate fashion trends into commercial sock-product opportunities!
Supported by the Head of Product Development, and alongside your own categories, you will be part of a team working on exciting new product development, and will form relationships with key design stakeholders.

Sock Designer – The Job Outline
- To be the design lead for two in house Brands, working closely with the Commercial Team to offer future trends and inspired offers whilst maintaining the Brand Handwriting.
- Researching and identifying trends & predictions for designs, colours and features. Keep abreast of competitor offers in similar markets.
- Create ‘mood boards’ for presentation to internal and external stakeholders at design concept stage, utilising prior research and “gathered/offered” inspirations.
- Create documented design briefs for each range/season for internal and external customers, taken from design meeting notes.
- Convert design ‘inspirations’ into working CADS that can be approved for commercial ranges of socks to be transferred to manufacturing facilities to create physical prototypes.
- Take a lead in driving the co-manufacturing suppliers for product ‘newness’ – yarn, construction, innovation, end-use, that can be utilised for the Brands or as an offer to a Private Label.
- To support “Private Label co-manufacturing” in designing seasonal collections.
- Assess prototypes against the supplied CAD and design brief for customer (internal/external) presentation/approval.
- Ensure “Design Packs” are available for the development handover meeting for offshore suppliers.
Sock Designer – The Person Specification
- Educated to Degree level in Design (Textiles), Knitwear etc
- Sock Design experience is essential. Knitted accessories or knitwear will be considered.
- Highly proficient CAD skills with Photoshop/Illustrator
- Commercial awareness. Ability to interpret design briefs/requirements and translate into design CADs.
- Knowledge of knitted structures, knitwear and an understanding of yarns, counts etc would be an advantage.
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritise in a fast paced environment.
- Good interpersonal /communication skills, ability to influence and present with confidence.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a wider team.
