Job Description

An exciting new opportunity has arisen for an experienced Product Manager to be responsible for the range and product development, pricing and promotional strategy for online and catalogue apparel. This opportunity would appeal to someone from a buying, category, trading or product management background who understands customers’ needs, has the experience in identifying commercial new lines, and getting product out to market quickly.

The Product Manager will develop relationships with internal supply chain and product development teams, as well as direct relationships with key suppliers for their given product categories.

Product Manager – The Responsibilities

  • Define the overall marketing promotions for each category
  • Set sales targets by product for each promotion
  • Analyse data to understand trends
  • Set the pricing for the products
  • Liaise with marketing teams / E-commerce teams to determine competitive pricing and promotional activities of each product category
  • Analyse and communicate the performance of new product/range launches
  • Determine the positioning of each product category to maximize visibility
  • Analyse data or insights to determine industry and consumer trends
  • Define the range for each category
  • Identify gaps in the range and develop product to close gaps
  • Look actively for trade opportunities such as fashion trends and other opportunities
  • Develop a test and repeat model for NPD to limit stock exposure whilst identifying bestsellers
  • Drive the NPD pipeline with supply chain and suppliers
  • Develop exit strategies for unsuccessful products
  • Foster trust relationships with supply chain and in the future vendors to achieve better pricing and quality of services
  • Place appropriate orders to ensure product availability that meets customer’s demands
  • Collaborate with supply chain and merchandising to expand product categories
  • Make forecasts for product demand to ensure the sustainability of inventory
  • The post-holder will have overall responsibility for Category margin through management of price, range and offer

Product Manager – The Person Specification

  • Previous experience within a similar product manager, category manager or buying role with apparel or fashion
  • A good knowledge of marketing/promotional and sales principles is essential
  • Must be able to demonstrate hands on experience of product and range development directly with factories, as well as collaboration with internal teams
  • Commercial mind-set
  • Self-motivated, resilient and tenacious with a strong work ethic
  • Organised, methodical and a good process/people balance
  • Passionate and willing to learn
  • Confident and self-assured
  • Change orientated, responsive, open minded and innovative
  • Strong team player and confident communicator
