Job Description

My client manufactures and supplies beautiful, high quality garments to the premium end of the UK high street. They are looking to bring on board two Fabric Technologists to work with their impressive customer base of exciting UK top end brands.

This Manchester based company are looking for someone with a can-do attitude and proven UK industry experience.

This is an exciting opportunity with a friendly, successful womenswear company who are passionate about the products they sell and fulfilling their customer’s needs.

You will be managing the technical performance of all fabrics, to ensure that they are fit for purpose and they achieve customers’ performance standards.

Fabric Technologist - The role

  • Manage the base and bulk fabric test approval in line with the fabric critical path.
  • Analyse fabrics; prevent fabrics that is not fit for purpose being offered to our customers.
  • Liaison with the customer to agree base performance standards is also required.
  • Work with the Fabric Buying Manager and Account Managers to highlight any performance exceptions prior to fabric ordering.
  • You will be required to submit non-conformances on fabric performance to the garment technical team.
  • Check the necessary reports including bulk test reports and care label to ensure all details are correct.
  • Review the costs of testing and drive down costs
  • You must liaise with external laboratories and off shore factories.

Fabric Technologist – The Candidate

  • 3/5 years’ experience of working with a wide variety of fabrics (woven fabrics and structured and soft tailoring desirable).
  • A good awareness of fabric testing requirements and general technical knowledge with strong practical skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and to liaise with colleagues in other functions within the business.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Must have a strong understanding of what goes into making a high quality garment.
  • Ability to prioritise and to switch between different tasks as required.
  • Problem-solving skills and decision-making ability.
  • You must be analytical and have the ability to produce & interpret fabric testing reports.
  • A highly competent understanding of computer/IT systems and software.
