Job Description

This is a really exciting opportunity for a technically sound, denim specialist to join a globally recognised brand. I am looking for someone with solid experience in the development of denim fabrics with a strong technical knowledge of washes.

The Fabric Finish Developer executes and manages the entire fabric finish development process from briefing until final approval. They will also be a key point of contact internally with the design, QC and sourcing as well as externally with fabric mills and factories.

Denim Fabric and Finish Developer – The Role:

  • Create continuous and seasonal fabric finish innovations.
  • Conduct market visits and visit fairs to stay aware of the market and competitive trends; be the person in the field who discovers and brings back opportunities.
  • Accountable for costing of fabrics and washes including lead times, minimums & up charges and identify opportunities to improve costs.
  • Manage new fabric development required, connecting with mills, arranging meetings and driving the process.
  • Manage and own complete technical specifications.
  • Checking of Bulk samples and sign off lab standards & set Yellow card standards
  • Develop colours for flat fabrics. Start-up lab dips.
  • Be accountable for fabric ordering of development fabrics respecting development calendar. Also order dry garments on new fabrics. Define finish target cost together with developer.
  • Own finish and cost overview and drive cost negotiations.
  • Work closely with Designers and Developers to ensure alignment throughout development process. Drive towards efficient ways of working and help solve fabric/finish/quality issues in collaboration with design.
  • Work closely with Sourcing, Contractors and Quality team to ensure the product execution delivers in line with the brief and to achieve required product costs and quality
  • Create, drive & sustain highly effective and influential key relationships with internal & external partners that will deliver business objectives.
  • Ensure that administration and maintenance of all fabric finish developments is updated at all times.
  • Continuous relationship building with key mills and new fabric suppliers, chemical suppliers and laundries. Close collaboration with external partners to ensure the brand stays ahead of the curve on denim and non-denim fabric and finish developments
  • As well as being highly technical the successful candidate must be commercial and able to present to the commercial team and external vendors.

Denim Fabric and Finish Developer – The Candidate

  • This role requires someone with extensive denim knowledge of both the fabric and the washing.
  • Must have 4 – 5 years experience in developing denim fabrics.
  • Must be technically sound and understand the garment production process from start to finish.
  • Must also be highly commercial and confident in presenting in internal and external meetings. For this experience of Power Point is essential.
  • Must also be a confident user of Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be confident in negotiating costs with external mills and vendors, so a head for number is essential.
  • This role is based in Belgium so candidate must be willing and able to relocate there for this opportunity.
  • Candidate must be fluent in English.
  • Candidates must be willing to travel extensively with this role to visit mills and factories in Europe and Asia.
