Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Menswear Designer.

My client is looking for someone to come in and support the team on a permanent basis. He/she will be working across the two brands identifying emerging trends and translating these into fashion stories our customers will love and believe in.

Assistant Menswear Designer – The role

  • Collate and use information on current & future trends as well as colour, fabric and styling to drive product and range development for the customer
  • Assisting Senior Designers with design CADs for multi-product categories (denims, jeans, shirts, polos, jackets, tees, sweats and hoodies) and doing 4 collections a year for each brand
  • Review past performance, competition and occasional visit fairs, shows, and directional shops etc. to keep up to date with new design developments
  • Develop the ranges to make sure it evolves by evaluating the success of designs, researching competition and developing prototype samples before styles go into production
  • Establish a close relationship with key suppliers oversees to ensure these suppliers have the relevant information
  • Consistently driving the brands forward, developing fabrics and product initiatives and being aware of new techniques
  • Work within the critical path when possible to improve lead times and performance

Assistant Menswear Designer – The candidate

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Fashion Design ideally first class
  • The ideal candidate will be passionate about fashion and will have a 24/7 interest in design
  • Ideally 1- 2 years' experience of working as a Designer with multi-product experience (Having menswear experience and/or a brand would be an advantage)
  • Knowledge of CAD and proficiency in Adobe CS5 particularly Illustrator and Photoshop
  • Commercially awareness with a strong understanding of fashion trends
  • Experience working with overseas buyers would be preferable
  • Proactive approach to product development
  • A team player who can influence and communicate at all levels including senior management and directors
  • Confidence to challenge ideas/decisions and to be challenged
  • Ability to perform effectively under pressure and within timescales
  • Adaptive to change, excellent problem-solving skills, ambition and drive to progress
